I've been busy editing my 2000 travel journal. I will end up publishing it in my blog in it's entirety very soon! It will be quite long however but I think that it will be easier to read as one document. Well, all the rain we had last week caused my apartment's a/c hose to break and flood a few units including mine. I came home late last Wednesday and noticed my bedroom light was one. I thought that my apartment had been robbed. It turned out that the apartment's head handyman came in to clean things up. Good for him but he left no note so I assumed the damage was from the storm. There must have been at least a few inches of water in the hallway, kitchen and part of my bedroom. A bit of my Turkish carpet got wet but at least the water was well water for the a/c. It was relatively clean and not sewage water. But my bedroom carpet smells, water spots on my walls and ceiling, and the landlord is dragging his feet in cleaning the place. After they didn't clean my carpets and simply gave me a spray I told them to replace the carpet. If they resist then I'll move out. Slum lords - I don't need that crap. They think they're saving money by not replacing my carpet? Fine - they'll lose a reliable tenant and get god knows who. I've been there almost three years and don't want to leave at this point. Especially if Darcy gets a job and we leave within a year!
I'm busy at work preparing for the June 18 collection development meeting. Darcy found out today that Broward County won't allow staff to travel on business to Toronto. So I'm wondering how this will affect NSU. If the travel ban is reinstituted then we'll take vacation time. Unfortunately I won't get reimbursed by the university. I know it's late but I need to do the Friday Five.
What do you most want to be remembered for? My modest writing projects (travel journals and autobiography that I'm working on)
What quotation best fits your outlook on life? “Don’t be afraid your life will end; be afraid it will never begin.” Grace Hansen
What single achievement are you most proud of in the past year? Giving Darcy a small diamond committement ring that I bought in Thailand.
What about the past ten years? Meeting Darcy
If you were asked to give a child a single piece of advice to guide them through life, what would you say? Don't be afraid to try something new.
I guess that's all for now. Time to go home and see if my bedroom has a new carpet. But I'm betting that there won't be one. I believe in the English proverb of hoping for the best but preparing for the worst...
